GPS in Car Shipping

Shipping a car has now become an easier task because of the vehicle transport facilities. Car is an expensive automobile which needs proper care. Though you have made proper agreement with the shipping company and availed auto insurance, you still need some device to monitor your car while it is being transported. Hence a new technology called Global Positioning System (GPS) has been introduced. GPS, a space based global navigation system is a useful tool for map making, land surveying, tracking and surveillance which provides reliable information on anywhere on earth. This system has transmitter and receiver.

GPS car trackingThere are two types of car tracking system which are passive tracking system and active tracking system. Passive system tracks the travel activities, speed, and location and checks whether the car door is opened or closed. Active tracking system also performs the same function as passive system, in addition to which it transmits the information to a computer through cell phone or satellite. Both the tracking systems send the message at the rate of 50 bits per second.

The receiver comes in a variety of devices such as watches, cellular phones etc. Even if you don’t have this device attached in your car, the transport company provides the car tracking facility. They give you the details regarding your vehicle and its conditions through internet, email or fax. You can connect it to your mobile and see the safety conditions of your car from being in your place.

You can also detect your car if it is theft which is done by the active tracking system. There is also an alarm installed which indicates when there is a failure and break of GPS signal strength. So while choosing the shipping company, make sure that they provide vehicle tracking facility.
