Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day Program

October 10,2010 the tenth anniversary of "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" program in U.S. This program in the last ten years has promoted reducing fatalities,--- "Towards Zero Fatalities" on American roadways. Our efforts to decrease the fatalities rate concentrate mainly on the need for improvements to our roadways, our vehicles and basic driver behavior.

Always keep it in mind that “I should not be Driven to Distraction, I am driving to arrive” and also encourage others to follow this policy, by making a special commitment to reduce fatalities by becoming involved and changing their own driving habits.

Here are some of the safety tips to be followed when we are in road:

Car, Bus, Truck Drivers

  • Always remember to use seat belts.

  • Avoid aggressive drivers and driving aggressively.

  • Do not drink and drive, avoid using cell phones during driving.

  • While driving, you must focus only on the road.

  • Always try to keep your distance, enough space should be there in between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Motorcycle Drivers

  • Always remember to wear helmet.

  • Motorcycles are the smallest vehicles on the road and offer no safeguard in a crash. Be alert, pay attention to the signals.

  • Conduct a safety inspection of your bike before every ride.

Bicyclists

  • Always remember to wear helmet.

  • Never creep in between a truck or bus you may could get crushed.

Pedestrians

  • Try to walk on sidewalks and in crosswalks whenever possible. Always Pay attention to walk signals and keep a proper distance when standing on corners.

  • While crossing the roads dont think that the vehicles will stop for you, they may not see you or even they may be unable to stop.

Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a chance for us to remind people that everyone has a personal responsibility to make secure decisions when you get behind the wheel.

We have yet to come across the silver technological bullet that leads to crash-proof roads and vehicles. We have yet to obtain all of the Americans to buckle up. We have yet to maintain all drivers from drinking. We have yet to get rid of texting and talking on cell phones behind the wheel.

We should keep in mind the fact that "Each life lost is a hole torn in a family or circle of friends or community".
