Weight can reduce cost

Before you plan to ship your vehicle do remember certain things to reduce cost. Many shipping companies charge for a shipment based on its weight. If you want to cut down on overall weight so that you are charged less then try to remember certain things. Most tanks can carry anywhere from eleven to thirty gallons of gas. See to it that the fuel tank is close to empty. Many vans have extra seats that can be removed. Other items like tool boxes, add-ons and other extras all add weight. If you remove all these things from the vehicle you can cut down on the weight of the vehicle and this can lead to reduction in cost.

What is Bill of lading?

A bill of lading is a type of document that is used to acknowledge the receipt of a shipment of goods. A bill of lading certifies the receiving and delivery of a vehicle and the condition in which it was received and delivered. It should be verified and signed at both the point of pickup and delivery. An instrument issued by the carrier (a transporter of goods) to the consignor (the shipper of goods), consisting of a receipt for the goods and an agreement to carry them from the place of shipment to the place of destination, is a bill of lading. Every bill must contain the following essentials - the date of its issue, the name and destination from whom the goods have been received, the place where the goods have to be transported, the description of goods, statement as to whom the goods have to delivered, the signature of the carrier.

Car shipping insurance

While your car is being shipped, insurance is a must. Car shipping company has to take a cargo and liability insurance as it is mandatory for them. This is done because if anything happens to your vehicle while it is being shipped you can claim the transport company. This is why you have to make sure to understand everything about their insurance. The carrier company will try every possible way not to pay insurance claim. So just see to it that before going for a deal with them check out their insurance policy. It is also important to see that the carrier company does have an insurance certificate. Some transport companies will tell that they do have an insurance certificate don't believe them until you see it with your eyes.

Some auto hauling companies might do very minimal insurance coverage, even less than what the value of your car is. So it is very important for you to find out the exact terms and conditions, what are your rights before going for a deal with the shipping company. A few important questions that you need to ask are is it possible to purchase additional coverage or any part of your car will not be covered. There might be lot of questions to ask which may be important and this can help you to save from any trouble in the long run. Before you give your car to the car transport company for shipping take notes of all the damages, every little scratch. When the car is delivered just see if there are any new damages. If cars are delivered at night, carry a flash light with you.

Carrier Auto Company vs. broker Auto Company

Generally transport carriers will directly deal with the customers but they rely on brokers for much of their business. Since carriers do not have a huge budget for advertisement, they mostly rely on local newspapers or word of mouth to generate revenue for their business.

Brokers deal with a large number of carriers so they can find you a carrier according to your budget and convenience. Brokers will offer you a better pricing when you deal with them then when you deal with the carriers. Auto transport brokers don't ship vehicles themselves. Brokers usually have access to a vast carrier network and can leverage this to find a truck going in the right direction with an open spot. Shipping brokers do not insure vehicles. Shipping carriers usually transport vehicles only on a specific route at a definite schedule.

Different types of trucks and trailers

The two main types of trucks used for transport a car i.e. tractor trailer trucks or pick up style truck called as hotshot. a tractor trailer is a two part truck. The tractor is the cab where the driver sits, and the trailer, hooked to the tractor, hauls the freight. Tractor trailers are a better choice for discount shipping because they can haul more vehicles at once, but they are slower and have a hard time navigating residential areas. Since certain roads are narrow the driver may leave the car in an open parking lot to load and unload your car from a tractor trailer. Hotshot trucks are more expensive, but can deliver the vehicle faster and can be navigated easily through neighborhood streets.

Enclosed vs. open transport trailers

Enclosed transport trailers are not exposed to any elements like dirt, snow, ice, rain etc. enclosed trailers are much expensive than open trailer. In open trailer, the car is exposed to many elements.

Multi transport trailers

Multi car trailers are open trailers can carry three to twelve vehicles at one go. Multi car trailers have the best prices, but will take more time to deliver your car. . if you ship on multi car trailers just see to it that you can pick up and deliver the car on time.

Single car trailers

A single car trailer is a type of open trailer. These are used when a car has to be delivered very soon. Only one car can be picked and delivered at a time. Single car trailers are more expensive than enclosed trailers.
